The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) is currently facing a tough time in disposing the garbage after the roads leading to both the dumping sites at Lerie and Dziiriizou have been cut off recently due to the landslides.
Damage at Lerie site is extensive. It is learnt that State Investment Program Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU) has sought financial assistance from NSDMA for undertaking emergency restoration work at the location.
The KMC has also extended some emergency financial assistance to the Perizie colony towards restoration of the landslide affected approach road to its dumping site in Dzürüzou area.
In the meantime, a detour is being utilised via IG stadium side for dumping purposes.
KMC is also in consultation with the L. Khel of Kohima village to undertake repair of this route.
Earlier, KMC administrator Kovi Meyase through a notice, appealed all the citizens, business establishments and shopkeepers to cooperate in managing their waste at household level and not to throw or accumulate in any collection points at ward and commercial areas until the road is restored.
KMC official assumed that roughly not less than 80 to 90 tons of waste generated per day in the state capital Kohima.
