KMC tell wards to penalize those dumping garbage in drains

KOHIMA, JUNE 17 (MExN): The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has requested all the ward panchayats/councils and ward/colony/sector sanitation committees to check illegal dumping of garbage in drains, littering and blocking of drains during construction.

KMC in an order stated that illegal and irresponsible littering and dumping of waste in drains are leading to clogging of drains and affecting footsteps as well as roads all over the municipality.

“It is once again reiterated that waste is to be disposed either in sanitation vehicles or in designated commercial waste collection points only,” it stated while adding that dumping of waste in drains, vacant plots, blocking of drain and littering during construction activities are all deemed as illegal.

Highlighting this, it has warned that penalty may be realized from offenders with first offence of Rs 500, second offence- of Rs 1000 and after second offence- Rs 2000. Proper receipt is to be issued and record to be maintained for realizing such penalties. The amount collected my be utilized for meeting sanitation related expenses within the ward/ colony/sector, KMC stated.
