KNCTST call for more nature conservation

Kohima, April 11 (MExN): The Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary Trust (KNCTST) have been entrusted to oversee nature conservation activities and its affairs of Khonoma under the aegis of the village council since its inception in 1998.

After launching programme on effective measures of conservation, flora and fauna have immensely increased annually. This was successful mainly because of the pivotal role played by Khonoma Youth Organization in implementing the do’s and don’ts of conservation at grass root level. Apart from this, Khonoma Students’ Union has been effectively maintaining cleanliness drives in the vicinity of the village and Dzükou as well.

On April 10, the KNCTST officials surveyed the conservation’s core areas and found that people are still trekking Dzükou with enthusiasm. “We happily welcome trekkers to Dzükou and wish they enjoy her natural beauty,” said KNCTST chairman Khriekhotuo Mor and executive secretary Kevikielie Pier in a release received here. On the other hand, the KNCTST regretted that it was surprising that some visitors are found randomly littering it dirty with sweet covers, plastic bags, bottles, cups, plates, thermo flask etc. It stated that those have been collected and burned/cleaned the area.

With a view to maintain cleanliness, a furnace with stone walls is being constructed at a core area for visitors use. “As Dzükou is an Almighty God’s special gift to us Nagas we would like to keep it neat and clean so that nature and her varied beauty in its true sense of realm may prevail,” it said and made a sincere request that visitors/trekkers strictly maintain cleanliness measures. Dirts may be burnt/buried and dustbins provide may be strictly used, it added.
