Receives Central Ministry's commendation of best police station in Nagaland for 2021

From increasing visibility of women in the police force to enhancing security and protection in handling cases of offences and crimes against women, the Kohima all-women police station has received the Central Ministry's commendation of best police station in Nagaland for 2021.
“We have 43 all women personnel in the PS,” Officer in charge UBI Tingbam Thomsong cites as she describes how they function alike other PS. Located in the top floor of the Kohima North PS complex, it is common for the women station to come across criminal cases which she recounts rape, molestation, domestic violence etc where the accused are usually men.
Earlier, two police stations were shortlisted the other one including Mokokchung PS 1 from the 86 police station spread across Nagaland.
2nd best in Performance-Based Evaluation
It may be mentioned that, the PS was also adjudged 2nd best in the Performance-Based Evaluation out of 16,955 police stations all over India. This was as per the Annual Ranking of Police Stations report, 2021 announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in November last year.
While the PS makes sure that rights of arrested persons especially women are not violated, the OC admits that due to nature of cases received, pressures from different fronts becomes unavoidable but are however handled.
DGP Nagaland, T John Longkumer while handing a Certificate of Excellence issued by the MHA to the Women PS Kohima at Police Headquarters today lauded the women police officers for rendering their invaluable services rendered to the State. He mentioned that the Women Police Station Kohima was the only Women Police Station in India to make it to the shortlist.
This exercise to reward the best-performing police stations annually, highlight the devotion and hard work of police personnel and to encourage others to emulate them.
The criteria for identifying the best Police Stations in the country is primarily based on their performance in crime prevention, investigation and disposal of cases, crime detection, community policing and maintenance of law and order. The infrastructure of the Police Stations, perception of the public approaching the police stations also finds importance in the ranking. The record-based evaluations have been presented under two major heads i.e., Crime Based Evaluation and Performance-Based Evaluation.
Under Performance-Based Evaluation where the state was adjudged 2nd, marks were allotted for disposing of old cases, speedy charge-sheeting of cases related to rape and crime against weaker section, recovery of stolen goods, detection of property offences, speedy verifications (for passport, arms, service, etc.), rate of accidents (in comparison to the previous year), rate of disposal of malkhana related case, case pendency rate, Community Liaison Group (CLG) meeting and false entries.
During the programme, SR Saravanan, IPS, ADGP & Special Secretary (Home) Nagaland, and Sandeep Tamgadge, IPS, ADPG (L&O), Nagaland were also awarded the Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak Medal' in recognition of their services towards the maintenance of internal security in the State.
