Kohima: Baptist College conducts debate competition

Kohima, February 19 (MExN): The Department of Sociology, Baptist College, Kohima and Sechu conducted a debate competition on February 17 at Rivenburgs Chapel Hall, Kohima on the topic “modernity is a threat to our traditional culture and values”.

The debaters highlighted the threat of modernity in terms of losing cultural identity, language, and erosion of values. They also highlighted brought tremendous change in education, technological advancement, raising the status of women, promoting and refining our culture and traditions. Dr Kewepfuzu Lohe, the critic of the event stated that one has to acknowledged different views and that “we can’t help but to adopt modern values selectively while promoting our culture.”

The motion team was adjudged as the winner and Alumpi of second semester as the best debator.

Dr Kewepfuzu Lohe, Vincent, L Thsidilong Rudy and Dr Videkhono Yhokha were the judges of the competition. Dr Khobu Tsolo was the moderator while Veshetsulu Ruho, Chetsho-ii and Kevizevo were the rapporteur of the event.

Sociology students from all three semesters including 12 debators representing their respective semesters and campus joined the competition.
