Kohima Bar Association organised its second lecture on the topic, ‘Art of Drafting: Emphasis on Suits and Writs.’

Kohima, July 29 (MExN): In continuation with its lecture series touching upon various aspects of law, especially with the objective of guiding the upcoming advocates, the office of the Kohima Bar Association (KBA) organised its second lecture on the topic, ‘Art of Drafting: Emphasis on Suits and Writs.’

The lecture was delivered by TB Jamir, Advocate and former Senior Additional Advocate General, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench at the DPDB Conference Hall, Kohima on July 28, KBA press release stated.

The lecture dwelt on the importance of precise, simple and thorough drafting of pleadings, which forms the foundation for deciding a case. The lecture also dwelt on the differences in pleadings occurring in suits and writs, and how it was important not to muddle up the two. Elaborately dealing with the form, structure and presentation of pleadings, the lecture emphasized on the importance of thoroughly discerning the facts, issues and the laws involved in a case before an advocate begins to draft his/her case.

The lecture also impressed upon the advocates the need to constantly hone their writing skills and to specifically avoid grammatical errors while drafting pleadings. The importance of presenting full and correct facts was also highlighted, by underscoring that a court should never be misled through non-disclosure or improper disclosure of facts by the clients, and that it was the duty of advocates to ascertain all facts from his/her client, as much as possible.

The lecture ended with a reminder that one can attain proficiency in drafting pleadings only through consistent practice.
