Kohima, June 28 (MExN): After a gap of two years, the Youth Department of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Minister’s Hill Kohima (CBCMHK) began its ‘youth week’ under the theme ‘Stand Firm’ on Tuesday at the church premises in Kohima.

Over the next two days, sporting events including badminton, table tennis, carrom, arm wrestling, volleyball, obstacle races, etc., will be conducted while literary and musical competitions would be held on Saturday and Sunday, according to a press release from the CBCMHK Media and Publicity Committee.

The youths, divided into six groups—Bethel, Beersheba, Bethabara, Bethlehem, Bethesda, and Bethany, will be competing throughout the event.

Addressing the opening ceremony, President of Chakhesang Wrestling Association, Vekhozo Ringa, urged sport enthusiasts to be serious and give their best efforts. If you want to take sports as profession, one must make a careful consideration while taking up sport disciplines so that they can excel in the chosen field, he said.

He also informed that Phek District Sports Association is trying to identify young players from the age of 12 to 16 so as to train them at a young age.

Ringa told the gathering that they are privileged to be a part of the church with leaders who can guide and create opportunities for them to explore their talents. He encouraged them to take cognisance of these opportunities and initiate the same in their respective villages so others can also learn through them.

Further stating that college and high school years are the prime period to learn good and bad things, he exhorted the gathering stating that a disciplined life at this stage would benefit them in the future. Choosing the wrong path would lead to regret, he said, advising the youths to choose the right path.

Earlier, Vevoto Dzüdo led the programme and Associate pastor, CBCMHK, Asüne Demo pronounced blessings for the sports event. Prominent wrestler Venuzo Dawhuo also graced the occasion with his presence, the release stated.
