Kohima College celebrates 56th parting social

KOHIMA, APRIL 16 (MExN): Kohima College celebrated its 56th Social Parting on April 15 at the college courtyard with Kegwayhun Tep, President, Naga Students’ Federation as the guest speaker.

Tep began his speech by cautioning the 360 outgoing students of KCK. The hope was for them to be an asset but the danger existed in them becoming a liability instead. He stated: “Youth has become a liability to our family, our community & society at large.”

He said that they would face the question of employability; that the unemployability of the Naga youth remained the highest amongst all of the Indian states.  For him, that intractable problem faced by most graduates from Nagaland was twofold—firstly the Naga tendency to only consider government jobs and secondly, the non-transparency of the job recruitment process for majority of the jobs in the government sector. He further cautioned the risk of depression, frustration, suicidal tendencies etc.

He concluded by pointing out that problems of unemployability and mental instabilities can be fought by the youth fighting against prejudices and coming out of their comfort zones. He urged the youth to “weigh themselves” and know their worth as they go forth into their uncertain future. He said they must endeavour to make their lives meaningful and respectable to society.

Earlier, an exhortation was delivered by Dr M Libanthung Ngullie, Principal, KCK, and the invocation prayer was pronounced by Dr Ketoukhrieü, Asst. Professor. Welcome address was delivered by Hyulo Tsela, General Secretary, KCSC, and short speeches by Nuvekho Rhakho and Sachin Sharma on behalf of the junior students and outgoing students respectively.

As announced by TiasunepLkr, Literary & Magazine Secretary, the College Annual Magazine 2022-2023 was unveiled by Principal Dr M Libanthung Ngullie, and a special performance ‘College Days’ was presented by the outgoing students. A Live Art show was displayed by Tahimu Trakha, and the distribution of prizes for the various competitions of the college (2022-2023) were announced by Ngushu Wanmai, Games & Sports Secretary. Lhousazolie Zumu, Assistant General Secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
