Kohima College: Fostering the Culture of Excellence

Kohima, August 9 (MExN): Kohima College commemorated its 55th Foundation Day cum World Indigenous Day under the theme ‘Fostering the Culture of Excellence’ at the college courtyard on August 9.

Zeneinuo Solo, Associate Professor & HoD, Political Science, and also the daughter of one of the founding members of the college, Vibeilie Solo, took the gathering down the memory lane by sharing a brief history on the establishment of Kohima College. 

A press release from the Mass Media Cell, Kohima College said, Solo stated that Kohima College was established in the year 1967 as the first private arts college in Kohima, by Founding Members- Dr Neilhouzhü Kire, Dr Satuo Sekhose, Vibeilie Solo and Vilalhoulie Belho, who shared a common concern to fulfil the aspiration of the upcoming generation.

For 38 years the college was under private management. Later, on February 2006, the college was taken over by the Government of Nagaland. 

She added that many students of the college bagged university ranks in various subjects. The College celebrated its 50 years of existence in 2017 and in the same year successfully completed the second cycle of NAAC Assessment. The college also hosted the first Inter Government College Olympic, organised by Higher Education, Government of Nagaland in 2019. Over the years the college has produced 8000 graduates and 1200 honours graduates. 

She also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organising the programme as it was the first time in the college’s history to celebrate the college’s foundation day. 

The invocation was pronounced by Pastor Seyievituo Suohu (Alumni), Flames of Fire Baptist Church.

The programme proceeded with a special number by the Kohima College students, followed by cultural presentations by the Angami, Konyak and Rengma students.

Nokpai Konyak of 5th semester was awarded the winner for Short Film Competition on the theme 'Kohima College: The Journey'. Hyulo Tsela, General Secretary, KCSC delivered the Vote of Thanks. It was chaired by Dr Theyiesinuo Keditsu, Asst Professor, Department of English.
