Kohima College gets Legal Aid Clinic

Kohima, September 13 (MExN): Kohima District Legal Services Authority opened the Legal Aid Clinic at Kohima College with Geetanjili Goel, Director, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) as the chief guest.  

In her inaugural speech, Goel stressed that law is a good option to take up as a career or even if not, the students can associate with the Legal Aid Clinic and provide access to justice for all. She mentioned that through the activities of the legal services clinic, one can adopt a village to enable the village to move towards legal literacy. While congratulating the College, she also highlighted that the National Legal Services Authority is willing to provide sufficient funds for any legal programme that the college would like to carry forward.

  Member Secretary of the National Legal Services Authority, Alok Agarwal in his address mentioned that the Legal Services Authority is like a marketing professional, to whom people come to ask for legal aid and legal services. The concept of legal aid has undergone a huge expansion and has started providing multi-dimensional services wherein legal aid is only a portion of it, he stated. He also encouraged the students to form Legal Literacy Clubs to benefit not only the college students but also others in general.  

Chairman of the Kohima District Legal Services Authority and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kohima in his keynote address mentioned that the Article 39 A of the Constitution of India provides free legal aid and ensures that the State secures the operation of the legal system to promote justice in letter and spirit for the downtrodden and weaker section of the society. He assured that KDLSA will do its best to provide assistance to the College in every way.
