KOHIMA, OCTOBER 29 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima today issued an order cautioning companies, contractors and public individuals against haphazard laying of cables, drainage pipes and construction materials.
The DC in his order stated that certain telecom companies, service providers and cable TV operators have been laying optical fiber cables/ wires haphazardly in and around Kohima City. Further, the DC said that many residents have been randomly laying water pipes for household consumption along the drainages, thereby causing the drainages to get clogged.
In addition to this, many individuals are dumping building materials, building pig sties, makeshift urinals and other such “eyesore structures” within the city thereby giving an unclean impression of the city, he added.
These practices, the DC said, cause numerous problems like hampering the smooth flow of traffic, movement of public, “and most importantly give an unclean impression of the city.”
Therefore, in public interest and “in view of the forthcoming Hornbill Festival,” the DC laid down rules for companies, contractors, sub-contractors and residents to adhere to while laying of the said cables/water pipes, structures etc.
The order notified that optical fiber cables/wires are to be properly bunched and laid in a tidy way as per the existing norms with proper permission from the concerned authorities.
Water pipes are to be removed from the drains, properly bunched and placed in such a location where it does not hinder the drainages in any manner. Cleaning of all the drainages in the city will commence from November 11. Meanwhile, the DC ordered that building materials, pig sties, makeshift urinals and “other such eyesore structures” are to be immediately removed or dismantled by the concerned owners/ individuals.
These directives are to be followed by November 9.
“Failure to adhere to this directive will lead to the removal of the said cables/wires/building materials/pig sties/makeshift urinals and other such eyesore structures at the cost of the defaulter after November 10,” the DC cautioned.
