Kohima, October 5 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, urged the graduating trainees of Government ITI Kohima to dream big and value their skills in today’s rapidly changing world. He was speaking at the 4th Convocation Programme of the institute held at the ITI Kohima Complex on October 4.
Highlighting the evolving role of technology, Buchem said that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) may replace many jobs, skilled trades will always remain essential. “AI cannot replace the work of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and mechanics. Skilled workers will always be needed in construction and other service sectors,” he remarked.
He suggested that the department and district administration could collaborate to create an online platform to connect skilled workers with job opportunities, thereby promoting local employment.
Encouraging the trainees to plan with vision and discretion, the DC advised them to have both long-term and short-term goals but to keep their plans private. “When you tell everyone your plan, someone might take it or laugh if you fail. Let your success speak for you,” he said.
Sharing his personal journey, Buchem recalled his humble beginnings and said that hard work and determination were keys to his growth which he learnt from his parents. “Don’t lose your way. With each passing day, you have come this far,” he encouraged.
Urging the trainees to look beyond conventional paths, he said, “Don’t limit yourselves, go beyond the trade you’ve learned. And only a few will join government jobs - go for private jobs; the scope is much wider there. Do your work diligently and with clean intentions.”
The DC also cautioned against the growing pessimism in society, especially on social media, saying, “There are many pessimistic mindsets in today’s society, but the world will move on, and the future belongs to those who are courageous.”
Buchem lauded the leadership of Er. Enchiba Longkumer, the Principal of ITI Kohima, describing him as one of the most efficient and professional officers in the district. “You are very fortunate to train under his guidance,” he told the students.
A total of 160 students passed out from the institute. Er. Enchiba Longkumer, Principal ITI Kohima, delivered the welcome note. Pastor MHBC, Vimegokho Chüsi, said the prayer for pass-out trainees, while Kesalhoukho Casavi and Senbeni M Yanthan spoke on behalf of the faculty and graduating trainees.
