Kohima Diocese celebrates feast of St. John Marie Vianney

Kohima, August 6 (MExN): The diocesan fraternity of Kohima Diocese celebrated the feast of St. John Marie Baptiste Vianney, the Patron Saint of all Priests on August 4 at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama.

Rev. Fr. Solomon Vizo, the Sacerdotal Jubilarian was the main celebrant of the solemn Eucharistic celebration. It was concelebrated by Bishop James Thoppil, Fr. Mariadhoss, silver Jubilarian and around 50 priests.

In his homily, Fr. Mariadhoss recalled with gratitude the innumerable blessings he received from the Lord and also some trying moments that he underwent during his 25 years as a priest. Recalling the experience of John Marie Vianney who overcame dark moments in his life through intense prayer, he said that it was through the prayer and support of a couple of priests that enabled him to sail through the rough years of life. Reflecting on the word of the Lord, he focused on “being in communion with the lord” so as to be able to share Christ’s Love.

Frs. Solomon Vizo and Mariadhsoss, the Silver jubililarians, were felicitated soon after the Eucharistic celebration by the Diocesan Fraternity. A grand felicitation programme was organized by the Josephites family as a sign of appreciation for the dedicated service of the priests of the Diocese of Kohima.

Earlier, Rev. Fr. Sebastian O, the Principal of St. Joseph’s College elaborated on the importance of the day and briefed on the life and works of St. John Marie Vianney and set the tone of the Holy Eucharistic celebration. A friendly basketball match was also played between the Senior and Junior Fathers.

On August 3 evening, the diocesan fraternity gathered together for a meeting to discuss various issues pertaining to the smooth running of the Diocese. Bishop James appreciated his priests for their dedicated and committed work in the different parts of the state of Nagaland, enduring all hardship and trials.

A press release from Fr. Renthungo Victor, Secretary to the Bishop, Diocese of Kohima mentioned that the celebration is an annual feature that the Diocesan priests eagerly look forward to. “This is a day to reflect, pray, admire and rededicate themselves after the virtues of their patron. They come together every year in order to commit themselves more concretely after the heart of Jesus, the eternal high priest,” it added.
