Kohima District Administration to tow and auction abandoned vehicles

Kohima, November 4 (MExN): The Kohima district administration has issued a strict directive for the removal of off-road and unattended vehicles parked indiscriminately along the National Highways and town roads within Kohima town. This constitutes not only serious public nuisance but also traffic hazard and poses risk of road safety.

In a public notice, Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem stated that vehicle owners have seven days, starting November 4, to remove such vehicles.

The notice warned that after the deadline expires, the district authorities shall confiscate all such non-compliant vehicles from the public roads.

The seized vehicles shall be towed and transported to a designated yard at the expense and risk of the owner(s). The district authorities shall not be responsible for any damage, loss, or theft of vehicle parts/ belongings during the seizure, towing, or subsequent storage period. A claims period of 30 (thirty) days shall be notified for owners to claim their vehicles after payment of applicable towing charges and penalties as per law. Any unclaimed vehicle after the stipulated claims period shall be disposed through auction as “unclaimed property” in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law and procedure. 

Hence, the general public have been requested to extend full cooperation with the district authorities for the successful implementation of this order. “Failure to comply shall attract penal action as per relevant provisions of the law,” it added.
