Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) launched a two-day special Aadhaar registration drive under SAATHI, inaugurated by Neiko Akami, Member-Secretary of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, at District Court Complex, Kohima on September 30.
In his inaugural speech, he shed light on the SAATHI campaign (Identity and Dignity), an initiative of the National Legal Services Authority. He emphasised that the campaign, launched in 2025, aims to provide legal identities such as Aadhaar cards to destitute children and connect them with essential services like education, healthcare, and welfare schemes, thereby restoring their dignity.
He encouraged the Kohima DLSA to cover Tseminyu as well, enabling the most vulnerable persons to benefit free of cost from this campaign. He mentioned that the special drive was initiated for public welfare, since during the Mega Legal Camp held by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority in April 2025, there was also an overwhelming public response for Aadhaar registration.
B Henok Buchem, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of Aadhaar cards in availing government benefits, such as the CMHIS scheme. He urged the attendees to take advantage of the registration drive. Further, he encouraged the KDLSA to carry out legal awareness programmes not only to inform people of their rights but also to highlight their duties and responsibilities as citizens.
The welcome address was delivered by Mezivolu T. Therieh, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of Kohima DLSA, who also highlighted the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and its importance. The programme was chaired by Nagali Shohe, Panel Lawyer, Kohima DLSA. Around 220 beneficiaries availed the services on Day one.
