Kohima DTF holds meeting on health programmes

Kohima, May 4 (MExN): A meeting of the Kohima District Task Force in connection with Weekly Iron Folic Supplements (WIFS), Mission Indradhanush and Routine Immunization was held at the DCs office chamber Kohima under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Soundararajan IAS on May 3.  

According to a press release, the meeting began with brief introduction of activities being carried out under WIFS, MI and RI by DPO (RCH-UIP) Dr. Avile Zao during which she gave a report on the background and concept of WIFS and informed that the objective of WIFS is to address nutritional anaemia in the adolescent population (10-19) years. She added that the target groups are adolescent girls and boys in Govt/Govt aided/municipal schools from Classes 6 to 12, inculcating adolescent girls out of school (10-19 years) and married adolescent girls.  

She also informed about intervention and strategy with coverage approach comprising of fixed day approach – Monday as National WIFS Day, National De-worming month – February and August.  

In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner informed all concerned personnel to mobilize the parents, ASHAs and AWWs to cooperate with the health workers in their respective areas. He expressed the need to create awareness and sensitize the public on the importance of WIFS for adolescent where active participation and support from the concerned departments, NGOs, Community leaders, ward councils, religious institutions was required for the successful implementation of the programme.  

He also viewed that the CMO should draft a letter addressed to the Commissioner Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) for implementing WIFS programme at the District Level. The administration will also take part and carry-out necessary action for WIFS programme.  

SMO, Dr. Sheila Longkumer (WHO) gave a brief report on Mission Indradhanush and Routine Immunization with comparative study of last MI phase I, III & IV under Kohima District.  

Project Officer, UNDP Rajesh Khartu Monsang also highlighted on eVIN vaccine stock update which consisted of a series of storage and transport links, designed to keep vaccine at recommended temperature from the point of manufacture until it reached the target beneficiary. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the need of calculating the demand of due listing of beneficiaries by ASHAs and have comparative survey/study with lists of the AWWs.
