Kohima Electrical Division launches drive to disconnect power defaulters

Kohima, February 11 (MExN): The Kohima Electrical Division has on February 11 informed that it has launched an extensive disconnection drive against defaulting consumers for non-payment of electricity bills, including government offices and SPM villages, besides cracking down on illegal and unauthorised connections.

In an update, Executive Engineer of the Electrical Division, Kohima, Er Shiludi Lkr, requested all categories of consumers in urban and rural areas under the division to clear their pending electricity bills at the earliest to avoid disconnection.

The division also cautioned the public against illegal or unauthorised use of electricity, including hooking, tampering with energy meters and bypassing meters, stating that such acts constitute serious offences under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003.

It warned that violations would invite penalties in the form of fines, imprisonment or both, as per the provisions of the Act.

Consumers facing discrepancies or grievances in their electricity bills have been advised to visit the office of their respective Sub-Divisional Officer (Electrical) for clarification, correction and rectification.

All electricity consumers, including those using prepaid meters, have been encouraged to utilise the department’s online portal (https://dopn.gov.in) for bill payments and recharge.

The division further said frequent transformer damage due to unregulated electricity usage has prompted authorities to advise installation of smart meters to promote judicious consumption, reduce stress on power infrastructure and prevent damage to transformers and wires.
