DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): A team from Kohima Excise department manning Khuzama inter-state check gate seized 500 grams of suspected heroin estimated to around Rs 20 lakh or more at market value.
In a press release, Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Vithoselie Terhuja informed that on receipt of intelligence inputs, duty party led by Assistant Inspector of Excise Kezhasoliekehie on Saturday intercepted one truck approaching the excise check gate.
Upon seeing the duty party, the alerted driver tried to evade detection and dispose off the bag containing the suspected drugs, which, however hit onto a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The bag was immediately retrieved by the duty party. The accomplice was apprehended on the spot while the truck driver, who managed to flee from the scene, was apprehended later.
The two have been identified as Taveilinu Chao, (23 years) and Pavei, (23 years). A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
