Kohima, May 26 (MExN): A District Task Force (DTF) meeting on the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 and Routine Immunisation (RI) was held at the DC Conference Hall, Kohima, on May 26 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem.

Addressing the meeting, the DC stressed the need to overcome stigma and misconceptions surrounding diarrhoea and healthcare practices, particularly in remote areas where awareness and access to medical services remain limited. He said diarrhoeal diseases affect productivity in schools and workplaces and urged all departments to mobilise resources and manpower for the campaign.

DPO (RMNCAH+N) Dr Khrievilhou Nakhro informed that the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) campaign would be conducted from June 16 to July 31, targeting children below five years, caregivers and vulnerable communities, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

He said the campaign aims to achieve zero child deaths due to diarrhoea through awareness on the use of ORS and Zinc, along with preventive and management measures. ASHAs, CHOs and ANMs will conduct awareness drives, distribute ORS packets and Zinc tablets, and demonstrate hygiene and handwashing practices in schools and Anganwadi Centres.

Dr Nakhro also highlighted the district’s immunization achievements, stating that from April 2025 to March 2026, Kohima district achieved 120 per cent coverage for Measles Rubella (MR) 1st Dose and 118 per cent full immunization against the Headcount 2025 target of 2,088 infants.

A total of 2,497 children received the MR 1st Dose, while 2,468 children were fully immunized. The district also achieved 105 per cent coverage for MR 2nd Dose with 2,198 beneficiaries.

Among the blocks, Kohima Sadar recorded the highest performance with 144 per cent coverage for both MR 1st Dose and full immunization.

The DPO further called on allied departments and DTF members to strengthen awareness activities and encourage communities to avail free immunisation and healthcare services.
