Kohima Gorkha community happy with govt’s political recognition

KOHIMA, JUNE 30 (MExN): The Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK), Chandmari Gorkha Union (CGUK), and Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA) have extended their appreciation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Chingwang Konyak, President of NDPP, and the NDPP party for their decision to nominate Priya Darshani Rana as the official party candidate for the ULB election 2024 from Ward 12 (Upper Chandmari) of Kohima Municipal Council.

In a joint statement, the leadership of GPPK, CGUK, and NGA emphasized their organizations' apolitical nature within the Gorkha community of Nagaland. They underscored the significance of Priya Darshani Rana's nomination, describing it as a pivotal moment of acknowledgment and acceptance for the Gorkha community, recognized as a Non Naga Indigenous community of Nagaland.

President of GPPK and Chairman of CGUK, Santu Thapa PK Thapa, remarked, "This gesture by the NDPP and its leadership is a testament to inclusivity and the recognition of minority communities in our state."

Nobin Pradhan, President of NGA and General Secretary of NGA, added, “We are grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the democratic process and represent our community’s interests on a broader platform.”
