Kohima: Health workers trained on ‘neutralising pneumonia’

Kohima, July 10 (MExN): One-day training for Medical Officers, Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Nurses on Social Awareness and Actions to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) was held at Para Medical Training Institute (PMTI), Kohima on July 8.

A total of 38 participants attended the training organised by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kohima along with the District Health Society, Department of Health & Family Welfare, NHM. Dr Rupert Peseyie, DIO (RCH/UIP) chaired the proceedings. 

As per a CMO Kohima release, the SAANS Campaign was launched to ensure early detection and greater awareness of Pneumonia in children under the age of five.

The campaign also aims to reduce child mortality due to pneumonia as it contributes to around 15% deaths annually of children under the age of five, it said. 

Under the SAANS, the Government is targeting reduction of pneumonia caused deaths by 2025 to less than 3 deaths out of 1000 live births, it added. Training of health personnel to provide prioritised treatment to control the disease is another target.

During the training, the resource persons Dr Akatoli Angto, Paediatrician CHC Chiephobozou and Dr Ruyangulie Paphino, MO, Mezoma PHC emphasised on three aspects – prevent, protect and treatment, the release said.

 The trainees were also imparted on effective solution for pneumonia prevention such as breastfeeding, age appropriate complementary feeding, immunisation and good quality air.
