Kohima: Orgs call for ‘One Tax, One Govt’

Demand made for probe into ANTA office vandalism incident

Kohima, June 20 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayats (AKMWP) has strongly condemned the vandalism of the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Head Office at Kohima on June 17, where an official of ANTA was held at gun point. “While vandalising of the office by the other miscreants is also a serious crime, this acts deserves condemnation by all right thinking citizen,” AKMWP stated in it condemnation note. Taking serious note on the incident, the AKMWP also put on record its support to the call for ‘One Tax, One Government.’ The association has also demanded a thorough probe into the incident and to bring the culprits to book at the earliest with befitting punishment as per law of the land.

The All Nagaland Taxi Association, Tuensang Unit has also has strongly condemned over the incident. The ANTA Tuensang Unit in its press release appealed the law enforcing and security personnel to take strong action against the culprits. “The Tuensang Unit will steadfastly stand by the ANTA HQ resolution and extend fullest support to association for future endeavours,” it asserted. Further it also reiterated that ANTA Tuensang Unit will stand by the resolution implemented during the presidential meeting in Zunheboto on March 24, 2022 on ‘One government, one tax and no donation to any political group.’ The association reaffirmed this decision during an emergency meeting on June 20, 2023, it stated.

The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), meanwhile, joined others in condemning the vandalising of the ANTA HQ office and reported holding of one of its official at gun point as “unacceptable.”

The AYO will no longer remain a mute spectator to any individual or group that disturbs or intent to harbour anti-social elements in the society, asserted the AYO in a press release issued by its President Kesosul Christopher Ltu and General Secretary Neidilhoutuo Sechü.

The organisation further noted that while it is the desire of every section of the society to live peacefully with each other and it had ardently been appealing for peace and harmony time and again along with others, some elements in society continue to defy and intentionally go against the common wishes of the general public.

The Naga political aspiration and struggle is dear to every Naga. But, it is evident that on the pretext of Naga nationalism, the majority of them (NPGs) have become national liabilities and merely reduced to the “category of extortionists and tax collectors with no objectives or principles in contrast to the foundation laid by our past leaders in the national movement,” the AYO stated.

In this connection, the AYO stated that it will allow” such elements to threaten and sabotage the well-being of the society and its citizens” under no circumstances.

The AYO, while extending its unconditional support, also urged the law enforcing agencies to render all efforts and means to apprehend the culprits and punish them accordingly.
