Observance of World Poetry Day at Oriental College Kohima on March 21

Kohima, March 22 (MExN): The Oriental College, Kohima today celebrated “World Poetry Day” under the theme ‘Standing on the shoulders of Giants’ at the college premises.
World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21, celebrating a linguistic expression that people from all cultures can identify with. On this day, Poets, both past and present, are honoured, and oral traditions of reciting poetry are revived. Reading, writing, and teaching poetry are encouraged, and converge with other mediums of expression such as music, dance painting, and more.
A formal programme was organised by English Department, where Limanaro Walling, HOD English Department gave the keynote address. She stated that one of the goals of observing “World Poetry Day” is to bring attention to the importance of poetry in the conversation of old languages, in human growth in general, and in bringing about global awareness.
The programme was divided into two collages, where students of the English Department performed original poems composed by them as well as by Naga poets. The programme was chaired by Menuotuolie James and Kevikhriinu of BA 6th Semester.
