
Kohima, January 4 (MExN): The District Executive Force (DEF) of Kohima registered a total number of 266 cognizable cases from January to December, 2016. Out of these, 159 were reported cases while 116 were suo-motu (self detected) cases by Kohima Police.
The present status of the cases registered is: Chargesheet – 207, Final Report – 38, and Pending Investigation – 21, informed a press release from Joseph Hesso, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima.
The release highlighted the top eight seizures among the suo-motu cases, including recovery of 40 stolen vehicles (inclusive of 15 vehicles reported stolen from other States) worth about Rs 1.2 crores. The vehicles comprised of 4 trucks, 2 dumpers, 12 Mahindra pick-up trucks, 6 Tata Sumo, 2 Tata pick-up trucks, 1 Tata Xenon, 1 Tata Indigo, 2 Bolero, 3 Maruti Alto, 3 Maruti 800, 1 Maruti Zen, 1 Maruti SX4, 1 Maruti Esteem, 1 Hyundai Santro, and 1 motorcycle.
5818 kg of ganja worth about Rs. 1.16 crores in the national market was also seized, while 18.5 kg of Opium worth about Rs. 4.62 lakhs in the national market seized. Other items seized by the police were assorted IMFL worth about Rs. 20 lakhs in the local market, 1,66,165 numbers of Spasmo Proxyvon and 1000 capsules of Nitrosun worth about Rs. 16.71 lakhs, one oil tanker fully loaded with solvent chemical.
The following various types of arms and ammo were also seized: 7.65 mm pistol – 1; 9 mm pistol – 1; .22 pistol – 6; .32 pistol – 3; Muzzle loading gun – 6; .22 Rifle – 2; 12 Bore SBBL Rifle – 2; 12 Bore DBBL Rifle – 1; 9 mm ammo. – 7 rounds; 7.65 mm ammo. – 9 rounds; .22 ammo. – 26 rounds. Various explosive substances seized were: Gelatin Sticks – 70 numbers; Cortex fuse wire – 17 meters; Detonator caps – 230 numbers. Altogether, 281 persons (269 males and 12 females) were arrested, the Senior SP said.
He further acknowledged the support and guidance provided by the citizens and particularly thanked those who have helped in prevention and detection of crimes and criminals in the town. Acknowledging public support and co-operation in maintaining law and order in the district, the Kohima Police also requested the citizens to come forward and correct them so as to improve their working system.
