Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The Nagaland government on Tuesday organized a State Farewell programme to its outgoing governor, RN Ravi at the State Banquet Hall, Chief Minister’s Residential Complex Kohima.
But in a turn of events, the programme was boycotted by members of the Kohima Press Club (KPC) who maintained that the ‘unprecedented step’ was taken “keeping in mind how the Governor had treated the press and media fraternity with utter disregard during his two years in office.”
“By sidelining journalists from local and national media houses based in Nagaland and refusing to interact despite numerous approaches made by scribes, Mr. Ravi as governor of the state has, in general, dealt with the Fourth Estate in Nagaland with complete disdain. And as is well known, he has not addressed a single press conference both as a Governor and Interlocutor,” KPC President Alice Yhoshü stated.
The KPC President said that the outgoing governor has “done disservice to the people of Nagaland, particularly keeping in mind his ‘dual role’.” Yhoshü added that at a time when the Naga society has been demanding clarity on the Naga political talks, and even when there was confusion and apprehension over what fate awaited its people after the October 31, 2019 deadline, the Governor “did not care to grant interviews to the Nagaland-based journalists.”
