Kohima RRR Centre: Midland Ward 9 wins Best Teamwork

Kohima, June 13 (MExN): A felicitation programme of MeriLiFE, MeraSwachhShehar campaign was held at Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) office on June 12.

The campaign launched on May 20, 2023 culminated on June 5, 2023 with mass cleanliness drive within all wards of the municipality. 19 RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centres were set up in different wards/colonies as part of the campaign.
The Best Teamwork went to Midland Ward 9 comprising of three SHGs.

During the campaign, 163 volunteers participated in running RRR Centres in different Wards and colonies, registering 4959.2 kg of clothes, 1803 pairs of shoes, 1133.3 kg of newspaper, books, carton, used paper etc, 560.9 Kg of electronics, 312 Kg of utensils, 188.4 Kg of toys, 209.3 Kg of reusable plastics and 61 Nos. of bags.

Most of the items received have been picked up for reuse; the remaining is being kept at the permanent RRR Centre at Supermarket Complex/KMC Office.

Züb Züb India was empanelled as the independent assessment committee for the best RRR Centres.  Upper Agri Colony Women Organization under Ward 17 was adjudged as the winner, Officers’ Hill Women Organization under Ward 10 came second and PWD Panchayat Ward 11 comprising of five SHGs were awarded the third prize.
The RRR Centre will continue at Supermarket Complex/KMC Office.

The details for functioning of the same is being worked out which will be publicized later, according to KMC. Through this campaign the seed for normalizing the idea of ‘reuse’ has been sowed and the permanent RRR Centre will carry it further, KMC added.
