Kohima: Students urged to develop love for learning

Kohima, August 3 (MExN): Kohima College celebrated its 55th freshers’ social at the college courtyard on August 2. The event was graced by Visielie Kezo, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, as the guest speaker.

A press release received here stated that Kezo, in his address, shared his educational journey and the challenges he faced, aiming to inspire the students. He highlighted the importance of reading and studying, addressing the pressing issue of unemployment in Naga society. He advised students to be wise in their educational pursuits, emphasising that obtaining a degree should align with future career prospects.

“Today is a challenging environment for students,” Kezo remarked. “You must develop a love for learning. Do not deceive yourself with a degree that holds no promise for the future. Be wise and know the direction you want to take. Life is the sum total of your choices and decisions you make every day.”

Earlier, Dr Vitsosie Vüprü, Principal of Kohima College in the welcome address emphasised the importance of hard work and urged students to learn good traits from their seniors, wishing them a successful and meaningful stay at the college.

Dzüdüve Swüro, Speaker of ANCSU, extended greetings to the freshers, followed by a song titled “Flower” performed by Alino Achumi.
Besutalü Tetseo gave a speech on behalf of freshers. This was followed by the induction of the Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC) for the tenure 2024-2025, conducted by Sungjemienla, Associate Professor and Convenor of the Students Welfare Committee.

The outgoing General Secretary, Nüvekho Rakho, handed over the responsibilities to the incoming General Secretary, Chutatu C. Thupitor. The event also featured a duet by ChelieKapfo and UnjonoRinga.

The title of Mr and Miss Fresher went to Kezhasede Lhousa, Department of English and Merubeinuo Zumu, Department of Political Science respectively.
