Kohima, April 12 (MExN): The Kohima Sumi Students’ Union (KSSU) held its 4th biennial conference cum felicitation programme under the theme “Empowering Youth Leadership” at Mount Olive College, auditorium, Kohima on April 12. 

During the programme, the KSSU felicitated 5 NSSB qualified candidates, 12 NPSC qualified candidates, 5 academic course toppers, and 1 National Sports Awardee.

It was graced by Atoshili Zhimomi, Joint Secretary to Government of Nagaland as the special guest, stated a press release received here. 

Addressing the gathering, Atosheli Zhimomi emphasised the importance of ethics in public speaking and event management. Emphasising the importance of digital media, she urged the students to use digital media judiciously for the productivity of our society and encouraged them to organize media in a refined manner.  

Highlighting the role of student's unions, she said that their primary focus should be working for the welfare of the student community. She encouraged the student union to use the student platform exclusively for student-related affairs. 

Stressing on career guidance, Zhimomi urged the students to identify their strength and weaknesses, emphasizing self-management and home study for competitive exams. She said that qualifying for a competitive exam such as NPSC or other exams, doesn’t necessarily require going abroad or taking coaching classes. Instated, it depends on one’s sincerity and dedication. 

Atoshili Zhimomi cited her personal experience, having qualified for the NPSC examination in 1993 in her first attempt after graduation without attending any coaching classes.  She encouraged students to focus on their academic careers and consider joining the administrative service.  

She emphasized that parents expect their children to be responsible and secure their future, giving their best in return for their parents’ support. 

Further, she urged the students to be ambassadors of peace for the Sumi community fostering good relations with different Naga communities in the state capital, Kohima, and taking responsibility for building bridges. 

Jehu Kinimi, President, KSSU delivered a presidential address and Shiwoto Wotsa, President, Kohima Sumi Hoho exhorted the gathering. The evening session featured Nitoka V Swu as the guest speaker, while  itto Swu, President, Kohima Sumi Officer Union exhorted the gathering. 

The programme also included distributing certificates to state and national awardees, toppers, NPSC qualified candidates and other achievers. Toino Achumi, one of the top 9 performers in the HSLC 2023 exams delivered a brief short keynote address.
