Kohima will have its own ropeway soon even as initial talks are on for the project. This has been envisaged by the concerned authority for a long time to also ease traffic congestion in the state capital of Nagaland but has not materialised so far.

However, in what looks like a probability for a ropeway in Kohima, initial meetings are being held for the implementation of the project. Principal Secretary for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, I. Himato Zhimomi had earlier tweeted today— “Looking forward to world class #ropeway for #Kohima #Nagaland. Had good initial meeting today with Wapcos officials for the same. #urbanmobility for all.”

Speaking to The Morung Express, he said, “We are preparing to sign an MoU with Wapcos to carry forward this ropeway project for Kohima.” As mentioned in his tweet, he informed that these are initial meetings and pointed out that it will be quite a long process. “But we are determined to get this through for Kohima,” he added.

The Principal Secretary also highlighted that Wapcos is a public sector company under Ministry of Jal Shakti and is involved in such projects across the country. In 2018, Wapcos signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Doppelmayr, Austria, the world’s leading manufacturer of ropeways, cable cars, etc.
