Kohima to impose revised ‘Odd-Even’ traffic system

Kohima, September 1 (MExN): In the interest of public safety, to minimize non-essential movement of vehicles and for better traffic management in Kohima Municipal areas, ‘Odd-Even’ system for movement of private vehicles, including public transport (taxis and city buses) will be implemented under the jurisdiction of Kohima Municipal areas, except on Sundays. 

The scheduled regulations are as follows: 
•    Odd numbered vehicles
- On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (Eg 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) shall be allowed to ply. 

•    Even numbered vehicles- On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (Eg 2, 4, 6, 8, 0) shall be allowed to ply. 

Exemptions: 
The prohibition and restriction of movement of vehicles will, however not apply to the following categories: 

•    Press and two-wheelers (without pillion rider)

•    Vehicles carrying emergency Medical equipments, essential commodities, LPG cylinders and Oil tankers Inter-State trucks carrying essential commodities bound for the state of Manipur. 

The DC Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, NCS in an order stated September 1 stated that violation of this restriction Order will be liable to be penalised under Section 177 & 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. 

“This order shall be implemented with immediate effect and remain in force till September 30 for the strict compliance of all concerned,” the DC added.
