The 4th edition of Kohima town Inter Ward Men’s Football and Women’s Volleyball Tournament 2016 under the aegis NPF 9th Kohima Town A/C with the theme “Unity and Friendship through Sports and Music” got underway here this morning at Kohima Local Ground.
On the first day of the tournament, Ward No 14 beat Ward No 2 by 4 goals to 2 in the mens football match. The goal scorers for Ward 14 were Mhashikhoto Pinyo, Vikhosa Dul and Povil. Viluyi and Khriesamhalie scored the two goals for ward 2.
In the second match of the inaugural day, Ward No 8 beat Ward No 17 by 2 goals to nil. Megovilie Miasalhou scored both the goals for ward 8 in their victory.
In the womens volley ball matches: Ward No 19 beat Ward 9 by 25-16, 25-15; Ward No 3 beat Ward No 16 by 25-20, 25-22; Ward No 2 beat Ward No 10 by 25-18, 19-25, 25-23; and Ward No 11 beat Ward No 7 by 25-17, 26-24
This tournament, initiated by Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, was started in 2010 with an objective to facilitate the spirit of oneness, fostering unity and bring the people closer.
Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, Minister for PWD (R&B) Y Vikheho Swu urged Naga sportspersons to be dedicated. He also stressed on the need to institute “Best Naga Award” to recognize the achievers in the different fields.
Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate change Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire said that this tournament has been designed for everybody and asked everyone to actively partake in this weeklong event, which will go on till February 6.
Earlier, Zotuo Kire, president NPF 9th Kohima Town A/C delivered welcome address while Xavier Rutsa compered the inaugural function.
Meanwhile, the Inter Ward women singing competition will be held at the State Academy Hall on February 3 while the Band competition will take place on February 4.
