‘If the government is not concern for the safety of its citizens, the wards will have no option but to self impose ward total lockdown’: AKMWP

Kohima, July 21 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) today reiterated its appeal to Kohima Deputy Commissioner to enforce total lockdown within Kohima municipality.

In an appeal addressed to Kohima DC, the AKMWP stated that despite the rejection of the earlier AKMWP's appeal for a total lockdown for a period of two weeks within the Kohima municipality, the citizens are keenly observing the action and steps taken for containing the spread of Coronavirus.

“But sadly the detection of Corona positive cases outside quarantine centre is rising to an alarming stage of community spreading. Thus, the citizens are pleading the AKMWP to pursue total lockdown,” AKMWP stated.

“If the government is not concern for the safety of its citizens, the wards will have no option but to self impose ward total lockdown,” the letter stated.

Appreciating the good office of Kohima DC in understanding the plight and concern of Kohima town, AKMWP approach the later once again to consider the consequences and take appropriate measures within 5 days from receipt of this appeal.

Earlier, basing on the receipt of appeal from AKMWP, Kohima DC on July 9 has written to the Nagaland’s Home Commissioner proposing the imposition of total lockdown of Kohima municipal areas for an initial period of one week.

Kohima DC suggested the total lockdown in order to enhance the ongoing active surveillance; for early detection of suspected cases; to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission; and further prevent the spread of COVID-19 to new areas.

However, on July 10, the High Powered Committee (HPC) for COVID-19 has rejected the Kohima DC’s proposal for a total lockdown of municipal areas in Kohima.
