The Konyak Morung at the Hornbill Festival site is often crowded with people hanging around and partaking in log drumming, interacting with people in traditional attires, having a gander at locally made muzzle loading guns or tasting indigenous food of the tribe.
However, what seemed different to the tribal depiction is the 'Fast Food Zone' that the Konyak Morung is operating during the 25th Edition.
This fast food Zone serves Chinese or Indian cuisines similar to what we find in towns in Nagaland.
It has Pork/Chicken/veg or egg Chow, sausages, noodles, Chole and offers options like bread & butter, omelette, boiled eggs etc.
When enquired about such a rare initiative, especially in a Morung, a member of the Chen Area Association Kohima said that along with the indigenous traditional cuisines that it is operating on the left side of the Konyak Morung, it has set up the Fast Food Zone in the right side of the Morung keeping in mind the need and demand of visitors who also looks for vegetarian options veg or simple Indian and Chinese starters, apart from the traditional food of the Nagas.
"The demand of the visitors is quite positive, both the traditional and non-traditional are balanced as far as the investment is concerned," the woman at the stall said; adding that they usually have customers early in the morning by 6:00 am, most of whom are domestic tourists.
When asked why such an idea was taken up, she explained that this is part of a fundraiser for an upcoming jubilee. She added that the rates are quite affordable, which is one reason why customers are flocking at the place.
