MON, AUGUST 30 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has strongly condemned the recent transfer of the lone Environmental Science (EVS) Assistant Professor from Wangkhao Government College, criticizing the decision as both ill-conceived and highly detrimental, considering the already existing challenges faced by the college.
In a press statement, the KSU highlighted that Wangkhao Government College, with a student body of 666, faces significant challenges due to this transfer.
The EVS Assistant Professor, previously the only faculty member in the department, was transferred under attachment, leaving a critical gap in the academic structure. The Union warned that the professor’s absence could negatively impact the students' performance and future opportunities.
The Union criticized the department for neglecting the needs of the college and the Konyak community, noting that recent appointments of Assistant Professors have failed to address the college’s needs adequately. They pointed out that some newly posted professors were transferred without completing their mandatory two-year probation period and without suitable replacements.
Additionally, the college, one of the oldest in Nagaland, has been grappling with a faculty shortage and has yet to appoint a new Principal following the retirement of the previous one two months ago, which is contrary to the requirements of the New Education Policy.
In response, the KSU has called for the immediate revocation of the EVS Assistant Professor’s transfer and for the department to ensure the appointment of adequate faculty to maintain academic operations. The Union warned that failure to address these issues promptly would lead them to take further action to protect the interests of the students and the community.
