Sonari, March 29 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) attended the Jayanti Memorial Day commemorating the life and sacrifice of Joymoti, organised by the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union at Sonari Town Auditorium in Charaideo district on March 28.
KU president K Yamao Konyak attended the programme as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Ahom and Konyak Naga communities, marked by peaceful coexistence, cultural exchanges and mutual respect. He referred to historical ties, including matrimonial alliances such as the marriage of an Ahom king to Watlong Anghya of the Konyak tribe, which strengthened bonds between the hills and plains.
The event served as a tribute to Joymoti’s legacy and a reaffirmation of unity and peace among communities.
The KU president also urged the younger generation to uphold this shared heritage and act as custodians of the longstanding bond, stressing the need to promote dialogue, cooperation and harmony across social, political and economic spheres.
The Union emphasised that such unity would honour the sacrifices of forefathers and contribute to a peaceful and prosperous future.
