Dimapur: Odisha Governor SC Jamir was conferred an honorary degree (Honoris Causa) by Hanseo University of South Korea on April 24, 2014. The degree was conferred on Jamir for his outstanding contribution to public service and public administration.
Founder President of Hanseo University Ham Kee- Sum, Dean of Academic Affairs Kim Seung Jae and a number of researchers, academicians and other dignitaries were present in the ceremony. Dr. Achyut Samant, Founder of KISS — a fully residential tribal educational institution providing education from KG to PG level free of cost, had accompanied Dr. Jamir from Odisha.
According to a press note, Hanseo University is located in Seosan —Si of Chungcheongram-do of South Korea and is a reputed University. This institution has, through its volunteers-known as Hanseo Volunteers, helped more than 15,000 tribal students through various academic as well as vocational programmes.
Dr. Jamir, during his tenure as Governor of Maharashtra and at present as Governor of Odisha, has initiated a number of reformative measures to streamline University education in particular and higher education in general in his capacity both as Governor and Chancellor of Universities. Dr. Jamir has been in public life for more than five decades, holding different positions, being a Union Minister and Chief Minister of Nagaland a number of times.
