Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): The Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) today extended its full solidarity with the All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) in its ongoing indefinite protest demanding the upgradation of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) into a government engineering college.
The SKK has been protesting since March 6 in Kohima over the issue.
The association commends the SKK’s unwavering commitment to securing the long-overdue upgradation of KPA into a government engineering college, stated a press release from the CNSA President, R Sunep Pongen, and General Secretary, Anoka H Zhimo.
As per the CNSA, the SKK’s peaceful protest highlights a pressing issue—the failure to implement the December 2007 State Cabinet resolution.
It further highlighted that the lack of a government engineering college in Nagaland has forced countless students to seek technical education outside the State. This has placed immense financial and emotional burdens on families, it added, terming the situation “unacceptable,” requiring immediate government intervention.
The CNSA also pointed out that the demand to upgrade KPA is not just a regional concern but a matter of state-wide significance.
Establishing a government engineering college will expand educational opportunities for all Naga students, strengthen technical education, and contribute to the overall development of Nagaland, it added.
Acknowledging the SKK’s efforts to engage with the government through repeated representations and ultimatums, the CNSA asserted that the union’s call for a written assurance from the State Government is a justified demand, underscoring the need for tangible action instead of empty promises.
Accordingly, it urged the Nagaland State Government to take swift action to fulfill the long-pending Cabinet resolution.
The CNSA also affirmed its steadfast support for SKK’s pursuit of justice and educational equity and conveyed that it will continue to monitor developments closely and stand ready to extend its full cooperation in the cause.
