KPC questions on Rutsa shooting

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (MExN): While acknowledging the solidarity shown to the press community of Nagaland by both the NSCN groups in connection with the shoot out on November 24 evening, where Xavier Rutsa of Nagaland Post was gravely injured, the Kohima Press Club (KPC) has put up some questions to the organization/s responsible for the crime and also to the State government. “The KPC would like to know who those cadres who were with arms frisking the people in the heart of the town at NST area”. It further questioned the stand of the state government in revealing the identity of those who carried out this senseless act. The KPC asked, “What were the police doing below the MLA hostel and New Market junction, near NST, when the cadres were frisking and harassing the people?”

The KPC further reminded that all those distorting the truth were committing a crime of the highest degree against the people and the nation. The KPC has warned that till the truth is revealed, it would not leave the matter as it is.

When contacted, Kohima Superintendent of Police Martin Peyu had to say that stringent efforts towards the case were being undertaken. He revealed that Police had identified some of the suspects in the shooting incident. A hurdle in the investigations, Martin said, was the inability of Xavier to identify the assailant who had fired on him.

Further, an NSCN (IM) home ministry source disclosed that they were waiting for the report of their General Headquarters which is dealing with the investigation process of the case. Details will be made public in a few days time, he said.
