Zunheboto, March 7 (MExN): The Khelhoshe Polytechnic Teachers’ Association (KPTA) on Saturday strongly condemned the series of burglaries at the Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) and appealed authorities to book the culprits at the earliest.
In a press release issued by KPTA President Er Ruokuobeilie Mere and General Secretary Er Yibenthung Odyuo, the Association stated that some miscreants ransacked the Chemistry Lab at KPA and stole apparatus/items on March 4. Thereafter on March 5, another burglary was reported at the staff quarters where the miscreants broke windows and forcibly opened the cars and made away with several pen drives containing important documents related to the ongoing NBA process, the press release stated.
As such, the KPTA raised concern on the safety and security not only of their belongings but also for themselves. It is to be noted that, in spite of several representations given to the concerned authority for security personals to be stationed in the Institute, till date no such arrangement has been done, the release stated.
Further, the Association requested the concerned authority to look into the the incidents and make necessary arrangements in order to provide safety and security to the Institute. It also requested the concerned authority to book the culprits at the earliest and give befitting punishment as per the law.
ANCSU condemns
Meanwhile, the burglaries at KPA attracted the ire of the All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) who issued a statement on Saturday, condemning the “robbery and vandalising of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu properties.”
In its statement, ANCSU recalled previous incidents of burglary at KPA and called to the attention of the state government and the concerned department of the numerous appeals made by the Union as well as the institute to set up a Police Outpost at Atoizu. During the ANCSU Education 2020, the union visited KPA on February 11 and again, raised the concern of setting up the police outpost on priority. However, due to the insincerity of the government, KPA has once again become victims at the hands of the miscreants, it added.
The ANCSU questions the state government as to how many more robberies and vandalism they would wait to see before setting up the police outpost, the statement read.
At a time when the institute was preparing to be visited by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and be assessed for upgradation to a full-fledged Government Engineering College, such anti social elements has hurt the sentiments of the student community, it said.
As such, the Union appealed the the law enforcing agencies to book the culprits at the earliest and punish them befittingly under the law.
