Kohima | October 31
In protest against non fulfillment of its demand, the Kandi Public Union (KPU) under Tseminyu sub division of Kohima district imposed a 48 hour bandh on NH 2 from today to midnight of November 1.
Vehicular movement has been restricted with the jurisdiction of KPU. However, paramilitary/police, magistrate on duty, ambulance, wedding party and media are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The KPU called the bandh in protest against the state government’s failure to respond to its 15- day ultimatum that demanded construction of BDO office building at Chunlikha RD block, which was inaugurated on February 29, 2012.
According to the Union, it had submitted a number of representations to the government in connection to the construction of BDO Office building.
Further, the Union stated that an ultimatum was served on the state government on October 6, 2017 to direct the contractors to start the construction within 15 days. However, it said there was no sign of construction till date.
In its representation to the Minister for Rural Development on October 6, 2017, the union urged the government to instruct the contractor to start the construction works within 15 days as work order was already issued and awarded to M/S JK & Sons Construction on November 11, 2016.
It stated that change of location/site shall not be accepted except on the inauguration site. The same demand was also intimated to the Director, Rural Development on September 1, 2017.
Placards were also put up on the road where the bandh was imposed, expressing resentment at the government’s “failure to deliver justice.”
“Our demand is for the interest of the Chunlikha range. Our demand is to construct office building at the inaugural site,” said KPU President, John Kath while talking to media persons. Meanwhile, on behalf of KPU, he expressed regret for inconvenience created by the bandh.
He said the Union had submitted a number of representations to the government, however there was no positive response for the last 6 years.
KPU Advisor, Johnny G Rengma expressed hoped that the government would start the construction of the office building, and cautioned that if the government fails to do so, the union would have a meeting with the public and take decision for future course of action.
