Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu today inaugurated a Fire Station at Pfütsero under Phek district.

This is the 19th fire station in Nagaland. Two more fire stations at Chiephobozou and Khuzama, will be inaugurated on December 19 and 21 respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Kronu said the state cabinet has taken note of the need for strengthening the department of fire & emergency services not only on attending fire incidents but also on the aspect of fire prevention and safety measures.

The department has been given the task to undertake the fire prevention and safety measures in the state.

In this, the minister urged upon the educational institutions, government and private buildings, hotels and churches to follow the necessary code of the fire prevention and safety measures.

Notably, the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Nagaland has started the exercise for identification and inspection of building in churches, hotels, schools, colleges, government offices, high rise buildings etc. in all the district headquarters as per National Building Code (NBC) 2016 Part-IV (Fire & Life Safety).

Earlier, the department directed all the government departments and high-rise private buildings in the state to install fire safety in their respective offices and buildings as per NBC Part IV 2016 to avoid fire hazards and incidents.

Kronu said that the current fire station projects in Nagaland are being funded by North Eastern Council.

He thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, fire & emergency services, SIRD and relief & relief rehabilitation advisor Pohwang Konyak and Neilasa Sopfü, IG, Fire & Emergency Service, Nagaland for their support towards the establishment of fire station at Pfütsero.

Also speaking on the occasion, Pohwang Konyak called upon the public to cooperate with the department for proper and efficient function of fire station at Pfütsero. He also called upon the public to do away with ‘blame game.’

Praising Kronu for his broad vision towards the developmental process in the state, he appealed the public to re-elect him in the coming state general elections.

Chairing the function, Sopfü said that Nagaland requires 48 fire stations and one training institute.

He acknowledged Kronu for pursuing Pfütsero Fire Station, which came into a reality today. He also made a fervent plea to the public to adhere to fire prevention and safety measures being carried out by the department across the state.

Pfütsero Additional Deputy Commissioner Japhet Woch called upon the people to take care of the newly created fire station and cooperate with the officers and staff. “Let us take the responsibility equally,” he said.

Yekhuse Tureng, ex-chairman Pfütsero Town Council also spoke on the occasion while Mezelo Lomi, convenor, Pfütsero Town Welfare Forum proposed vote of thanks.
