In a welcome move, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation & Monitoring Cell and Taxes, Neiba Kronu has initiated a massive ornamental and fruit tree plantation drive along the side of over 50 km stretch of road falling under 16th Pfutsero Assembly Constituency in Phek district. The plantation was carried out this year.
Over 25,000 saplings of varied species, including ornamental tree, cherry, wild apple, Yanchak and peach were planted on the whole stretch of the road.
Talking to the visiting media persons to the plantation side, Kronu said such initiative will not only help in protection of the environment, but will also beautify the road and also maintain soil stability and secure it from erosion and landslides.
Moreover, he said that once the trees are matured, travelers along the route can enjoy the shed and also the fruits.
These fruit trees would also act as centre of attraction for passersby and tourists as well. He said the plantation drive was supported by the respective villages along the road and churches.
Kronu also said the planted trees will be taken care of by the respective villages along the road and maintained that once matured, the trees will contribute hugely to the state.
