KSC celebrates World Earth Day

KOHIMA, APRIL 23 (MExN): With the aim to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote global efforts to protect the Earth’s natural resources, the Department of Geography, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma celebrated World Earth Day 2023 on April 22 under the theme ‘Invest in our planet.’ 

Head of Department Geography, Rongdensungla Longkumer in her keynote address highlighted the crucial role of investment in driving positive change and addressing the current environmental challenges that we face today. 

She emphasized the need to address urgent environmental challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and waste reduction in order to secure a better future for our planet. She said Earth day is believed to be one of the largest civic observances in the world. 

She reminded on activities that promote a partnership between businesses, governments, and citizens for urgent action towards environmental protection in order to ensure a sustainable future. Further, she urged the students to make an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, be environmentally aware and make conscious decision for a sustainable, resilient future. 

Welcome address was delivered by Shevito Theyo, Assistant Professor while Dr. Sakhoveyi Lohe, Assistant Professor in his introductory remark briefed on World Earth Day celebration and its importance.  A total of 120 students participated by turning off non-essential lights and appliances towards investing in the planet and reducing carbon footprint. To bring awareness amongst the students, group activities like cleanliness drive, energy conservation and plantation drive were carried out at college premises.
