Officials with winners of 2nd Birding Competition organised by Department of Zoology of Kohima Science College (A), Jotsoma from December 2 to 4.

Kohima, December 5 (MExN): The Department of Zoology of Kohima Science College (A), Jotsoma organized the 2nd Birding Competition from December 2 to 4.
Centered around the theme “Know Your Feathered Friends,” the event aimed to promote awareness about avian biodiversity, ecological conservation and the importance of wildlife sanctuaries in sustaining bird populations.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from twelve students, faculty members, and birding enthusiasts. Participants represented the different houses of the Winfest 2024 making it a diverse and engaging competition.
The event kick started with an orientation on December 2 for the participants followed by Birding event on December 3 in Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary and its vicinity.
The participants identified and documented a wide range of bird species, noting their habitats, behaviors and calls.
The event concluded on December 4 with a valedictory session. The session was chaired by Dr. Lilongchem Thyug, Associate Professor. The judges were Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer, Nagaland Forest Department, Dr. Chetan Kachhara, HoD, Department of Physics, Dr. Vethselo Doulo, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology and Rusokhrienuo Theunuo, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer, Nagaland Forest Department as Special Judge of the event highlighted on Birding ethics and encouraged the participants to take up Birding as a hobby and also stressed on understanding the habitat and behavior of birds.
The highest bird count by the winning team was 51. The winners of the event were- 1st: House Mormont, 2nd: House Stark, 3rd: House Baratheon. Prizes were distributed to winners which included cash and certificates.
