KSSU calls for action on abandoned school building

DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): The Keltomi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed support to the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) with relation to the incomplete and abandoned Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) school building in four villages namely GMS Kelto, GMS Shevishe, GMS Ngozubo and GMS Viyilho.

A press release from the media cell of the KSU informed the project was sanctioned in the years between 2010-2013 implemented by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) District Mission Authority Zunheboto (DMAZ).

The KSU informed that it working closely with the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) and monitoring each and every unfolding events regarding this issue. The union pointed out that as per the SSA Abhiyan, State Mission Authority Nagaland order at the time of issue of Work Orders the Village Education Committee/School Management Committee were directed to implement the school building construction projects.

And as per the records, the funds were credited into the bank accounts of the respective Village Education Committee/School Management Committee, the KSU informed. It however alleged that “the officials of SSA, District Mission Authority Zunheboto (DMAZ) unofficially hijacked the works, the bank accounts, cheque books of these schools and undertook the school building construction against the directive of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, State Mission Authority Nagaland and the school building constructions were kept incomplete and abandoned.”

The KSU appreciated the Advisor for School Education, Government of Nagaland for his note dated July 1 to the SSA in which the former took serious note of this issue and had asked for the detailed report of the officials involved in the implementation of this project within one week.

This, it stated is “very much in line with the demand of the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) appeal to punish the culprits in a befitting manner and to ensure immediate completion of school building projects.”

The KSU however expressed that there has been no report of action being initiated against the culprits nor any progress being made in the construction of school projects of any of the said GMS.

It further expressed surprise as to “why the District Education Officer/ District Project Coordinator and the Deputy commissioner/Chairman District Education Committee has not convened even a single official meeting regarding this issue with the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU).”

The KSU therefore appealed to the concerned authority to understand the seriousness of the issue and take measures to meet the demands of the ESSU at the earliest.
