KSU seeks ‘clear justification’ from Power department

Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has sought “clear justification” with regard to the July 22, 2009 incident that occurred with the Power department in Mon. According to a press release issued by the KSU president, T Khonggjah, and general secretary T Ngampal K, prior to the ENSF Conference on July 14, the KSU held a meeting with all the heads of departments at the DC’s office chambers and requested the cooperation of the concerned departments during the ENSF Conference, and the ‘work’ was distributed accordingly.

However, the KSU stated, contrary to that meeting, the E.E (P) Mon served a notice to conduct colony wise ‘line-checking’ starting from July 17 to 23 saying that “he didn’t have any knowledge about the conference”. The KSU added that it “wonders why the E.E (P) had made a coincide programme”. Alleging that the APEN had clarified that the “insulator was punctured ‘most probably due to lighting strike’ near Anaki Village”, the Union pointed out that between the morning of July 20 to July 22, there was neither rainstorm nor lighting strike, and thus questioned “what is meant by the word ‘most probably’”.

The Konyaks, being a peace loving people, have no such intention to create any havoc or harass anybody, stated the Union. However, it expressed wonder at “how super fast” the Power department could restore the power within three hours after the incident. “Was the department waiting for such action,” it questioned.

The KSU, thus, demanded that the government set up a high-level fact finding committee “to punish the defaulter(s)”, while warning that if denied justice, the KSU would be compelled to pursue its own course of action, adding that they “have enough proof”.
