KSU sets deadline to Cabinet Sub-Committee on oil

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The apex Kyong Students’ Union today cautioned that it would have to take an own course of action if the Nagaland Cabinet Sub-Committee on oil “fails to frame the modalities” for oil extraction in Changpang oil field, in Wokha, on or before March 29.

The KSU issued a press release today lamenting that more than a year has lapsed since the committee had assured finalization of the modalities “within three months.” The press release was appended by KSU president Subenthung Kithan and general secretary Amos Odyuo.

The organization stated – “The KSU has submitted an ultimatum to Convener, Cabinet Sub-Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas for framing of modalities for oil extraction in Changpang Oil Field and consultation on the draft modalities on exploration and mining of petroleum in Nagaland within 1 month from the date of submission of ultimatum which was submitted on 29th March’ 2012 and subsequent publication in our local media on 4th March’ 2012. Till date the union did not received any response or assurance from the Cabinet Sub-Committee from the time of submission of its ultimatum.”

Fourteen months have passed since the assurance given by the convener “for finalizing the draft modalities within 3 months on 8th of Jan ‘2012 at Changpang much to the dismay of students communities in particular and the general public at large for being delaying,” the union said.

The union termed the delay of the Cabinet Sub-Committee as “an attempt to thwart the wishes of the people and denial of the rights to development and livelihood”. The KSU conveys a strong message to the Cabinet Sub-Committee “that it will initiate its own course of action if the Cabinet Sub-Committee fails to frame the modalities for Oil extraction in Changpang Oil field on or before 29th march ‘2012.”
