Kachari Tribal Council urges vigilance along inter-state border

DIMAPUR, JULY 29 (MExN): The Kachari Tribal Council, Nagaland has appealed to members of the Kachari community, particularly those residing in villages along the inter-state border, to remain vigilant in light of a possible influx of illegal migrants.

In a press release issued on Monday, Council president Chabi Kumar Mech stated that many Kachari villages, stretching from Manglumukh to Kushiabill, lie along a 40–50 km porous border shared with Karbi Anglong district of Assam. He expressed concern that the ongoing eviction drive in Assam could lead to the movement of illegal migrants into Nagaland through these areas.

The Council urged village authorities to promptly report any suspected entry of illegal migrants to the nearest administrative office or police station. It also advised against providing shelter to unknown individuals without proper verification of their identity and citizenship status.

"The village authorities are requested not to provide shelter to any unknown persons without verifying his/her identity as a legal citizen of our state," the release stated.
