Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) today stated that it will uphold and safeguard the standing aspiration of the Konyaks under “One code” and stern actions will be taken against those “Konyak renegades” who go against it.
This was decided at a Konyak conclave held under the aegis of the KU in Mon Town on June 30, where discussion was centered on issues pertaining to the June 27 midnight incident over Sovereign Republic of Freeland’s (SRF) general conference scheduled to be held in Mon Town on June 28.
The conclave attended by all the Konyak frontal organisations and all units under the KU deliberated on the incident and decided the same, informed a press statement from KU President, Manlip Konyak and General Secretary, Honang Konyak.
Earlier, the KU had banned the proposed conference of the SRF and the district administration escorted the SRF delegates out from Konyak soil “after seeing the rising temperament of the furious mobs gathered for action.”
“Disturbances from such renegades/traitors within Konyak society had been observed for the first time in the history of the Konyaks… On the contrary, the conclave itself was driven out with utmost feelings of patriotism and a sense of responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the Konyaks. Such force had compelled the Konyak Union to resolve for any extreme action,” the statement maintained.
The meeting also discussed the ill consequences caused by “injecting a virus of division” and seriously noted the same with utmost regrets and discontentment, it added.
The statement informed that KU had also resolved to initiate “stern and extreme action” against SRF activists Hejei Konyak of Chen Moho and Panglei Konyak of T/Chingkho Village.
Both were summoned on February 23 by KU office and a fine of Rs. 15000 each was imposed for diluting the “traditional & Institutional code of the Konyaks”. They were warned against any activities undermining the institution, failing which, they will be fined Rs. 5,00,000,/- penalty or may even be “socially ex-communicated”.
The KU expressed surprise that they continued their “instigative and provocative activities” whereby even initiating to host the so-called SRF general conference in Mon Town on June 28. The Union described it as a “direct challenge.”
During the conclave, the councils of Chen Moho and T/Chingkho had paid Rs. 50000/- to the Konyak Union as they failed to produce the two SRF activists but the KU resolved to initiate following actions.
Resolution
As resolved, the ward union concerned has seized the properties belonging to the two “renegades” in Mon Town and they remain under KU’s custody. It was also resolved that both Chen Moho and T/Chingkho should “socially ex-communicate” the two renegades until such time the Konyaks decide to accommodate them into the traditional institution of the Konyaks.
It also decided to rebel the influence of SRF on Konyak soil in any form and outrightly declared that any individual/ party/ group/ State Government if found accommodating/ entertaining/ acknowledging the "cruel plea" from those Konyak “renegades” shall not be tolerated and will consider as a direct challenge to the very institution of the Konyaks.
The KU also warned the community currently enrolled under SRF to immediately denounce its membership by surrendering its ID card to the office of the Konyak Union on or July 20.
“In case of non compliance to its directive, the Konyak public shall not be held responsible for any untoward incident that may inflict upon you,” it added.
KU also questioned the other tribes as to or on what condition they are sheltering and protecting those SRF that had entered into Konyak’s soil and expressed anticipation that the remaining tribes will immediately take up stern action so as to avoid further confusion within.
ENPO questioned
Meanwhile, the KU questioned the lukewarm stand of the Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) on the SRF issue within Eastern Nagaland. “The institution such as ENPO is the mandated organization by the 6 tribes of Eastern Nagaland; however, the chaos & confusion that had arisen today is no doubt but a clear sign of its weaknesses,” it said. The Konyak Union (KU) once again appealed to the ENPO executives/councils to refrain from any vested political /individualistic interest that display failures and fears as today.
NPGs warned
The statement also warned that if any Naga Political Groups (NPG) if found accommodating such Konyak “renegades” within its fold or safeguarding them, Konyaks will not hesitate in declaring that very NPG as the very enemy of the Konyaks.
Appeal
The Konyak people appealed to all individuals/party concerned and even the state Government to adhere and respect the institutional resolution of the Konyaks so as to maintain peaceful co-existence based on mutual trust and respect.
Final appeal to two ‘renegades’
In spite of all the harsh action inflicted upon the two “renegades”, the Konyak Union said it still reserves an honorable place for them provided they are willing to repent. “The social Konyak institution is for all Konyaks provided we remain as Konyak adhering to the very code of the Konyaks, it added.
