MON, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has directed all government and private schools under Mon district to appoint a Konyak local language teacher, and “enforce with immediate effect” from the beginning of the academic session 2014 for classes 1 to 8. In the interest of the community, the KU has decided to “exercise its power to inspire and spread the Konyak language,” informed a press release from KU president, S. Manlip Konyak and general secretary, Y. Hosea Konyak.
In that, the KU informed that the required local language text book would be available for classes 1 to 8 for both government and private Schools “on cash payment” from Rev. Yeangphong Konyak, Literature Secretary KBBB’s residence near Angjong High School, Mon Town.
Based on the KU Constitution No.9 (1) and Current Resolution No.3 (C) of 2007, the KU stated that the language is being encouraged especially for the “upcoming Konyak young’s generation in both Government and Private Schools under Mon District.”
The apex Konyak body reiterated that “the Konyak culture & tradition which is the legal legacy of forefathers shall continually uphold with dignity and honour, and when we enforce/ insist our local dialects in every institutions it preserves and speaks a high volumes of our identities, costume and traditions.”
In today’s age of modernization and technology advancement, noted the Union, everyone is looking for a better educational system but speaks only English, Hindi, Nagamese etc, and “never try to use own language in any form.” The KU stressed that when a person is “not acquainted or acquired” with their mother tongue or language, their image and identity is lost.
“Hence forth all Konyak upcoming youngster are encouraged to learn more about Konyak mother tongue (language),” stated the Union, so that equal importance may be given to tradition in order to feel like “complete men and women in the present societies.”
